In 1969, the East LA Barrio Free Clinic got its start, primarily serving those in the East Los Angeles community. In the 1970s, it became evident that surrounding communities also needed health services. The organization changed its name to La Clinica Familiar del Barrio – a more inclusive name that represented more of the patients they were serving.⁣
⁣ ⁣
Today, @AltaMedHealthS serves more than 300,000 patients. One thing that remains a constant is the fact that people are never turned away if they are unable to pay. With the help of the @AltaMedFoundation, AltaMed Health Services continues to grow when and where we’re needed.⁣

In 2017, AltaMed Gives started encouraging its employees to support patients and community members who need extra assistance. Within the first year of the program, more than 500 employees had given.⁣

Today, more than 1,000 employees directly support our patients and participants. Our employees are passionate about helping others, and through the program, they can see how their dollars impact members in our communities.⁣

@AltaMedHealthS has been adding dental services to our medical clinics to help families without transportation. In 2004, our Boyle Heights’ patients were the first to receive medical AND dental care all under one roof!⁣⁣⁣

Today, AltaMed has 10 medical AND dental clinics throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties. Thanks to supporters like you, our pediatric patients have healthier, brighter smiles, and parents have one less thing to worry about!⁣⁣⁣

During the 1960’s, Chicano college students and the Brown Berets planted their roots in the heart of East Los Angeles. These activists were proud of the communities they came from. However, they recognized the health disparities in their neighborhoods and wanted to create change. Their groundbreaking work was instrumental in establishing community clinics, like AltaMed Health Services.⁣ ⁣
Today, @AltaMedHealthS continues to take great pride in serving the residents of Los Angeles and (now) Orange County with the support of @AltaMedFoundation.⁣

Our staff may not be 100% volunteer-based anymore but they have the same desire to go above and beyond for our community. ⁣
⁣
Through our employee giving program, AltaMed Gives, our team members fundraise and donate their time to help patients with more than medical services. ⁣
⁣
For the past 2 years, employees have raised $21,600 to stuff over 2,160 backpacks with back-to-school supplies for children.⁣ ⁣
This is just one of the ways the Foundation allows people to be a part of the #AltaMedImpact. ⁣
